It is Fourth of July weekend in the United States, which means Independence Day is upon us! I love working with mason jars when I am crafting and this was an incredibly easy project. It took me less than 20 minutes to put the entire craft together.
I happened to have everything on hand which also made it completely free. Even purchasing the supplies would still not be that expensive.
Supplies needed:
- Mason jars (I used the 16 ounce size, but you could use any size you want) https://www.amazon.com/Golden-Spoon-Mason-Jars-Regular/dp/B01LYFJ7WP/ref=sr
- White rice https://www.amazon.com/Mahatma-Enriched-Extra-Grain-White/dp/B003SI144W/ref=sr
- Red and blue food coloring https://www.amazon.com/McCormick-Assorted-Food-Color/dp/B016F7D46S/ref=sr
- Resealable plastic bags (I used the gallon size) https://www.amazon.com/Ziploc-Freezer-Bag-Gallon-Count/dp/B00I9JK8GU/ref=sr
- Tea light candles https://www.amazon.com/Unscented-Tealight-Candles-Pack-White-CandleNScent/dp/B019O4SB58/ref=sr
Directions:
- Separate white rice evenly into two separate resealable plastic bags.
- Next, carefully drop red food coloring into the first bag of rice and then blue food coloring into the second bag.
- Seal each bag and shake until your desired color is reached and it is evenly distributed.
- Cut a hole into the corner of each bag and place an equal amount of red, white, and blue rice into each mason jar.
- Finally, place a tealight candle into each mason jar on top of the rice and light up to enjoy.
There are ways you could add to this craft, (tying some ribbon around the mason jars or changing the pattern of colors) but I love how it looks as is. You could also change the colors as well and have this project work for any holiday or style. Enjoy!
